Introduce Book Project

Assignment: Print poster and prepare for critique.
Be prepared to discuss your Book idea. What is the content? How will you approach the design?

November 9
CRITIQUE: POSTER
Discussion: Student book concepts; look through examples of interesting books by designers
Gather resources for book design.

Assignment: Gather and bring book content. Work on layout sketches.

Week 12 BOOK

November 14
Lecture: Structural devices Review sketches.
Begin designing your book.

Assignment: Bring in at least 3 sample spreads to next class.

November 16
POSTER PROJECT DUE
Check sample spreads
Workshop: bookbinding

Assignment: Lay out all the remaining pages. Print several spreads at actual size.

Week 13 BOOK

November 21
Individual critiques: book

Assignment: Continue working on your book. You should be fairly close to finishing the whole layout.

November 23
Thanksgiving

Week 14

November 28
In-class work on the book, ask your questions now!

Assignment: Prepare a complete dummy of your book, in full-scale, print in black and white on regular paper, trimmed to the edge and taped together in sequence.

November 30
CRITIQUE: BOOK (complete and bound dummy in b&w)
In-class work on the book, ask your questions now!

Assignment: Complete book, print

Week 15 BOOK

December 5
Print and bind book

December 7
FINAL CRITIQUE: BOOK. Attendance required for you to pass the class.
