This schedule is a tentative outline of how the course assignments will progress through the first half of the semester. Dates and assignments are subject to change as individual and group projects develop. Always refer to current project handouts for most updated information. There is not set time for meeting with Engineers other than dates. We will set these at the beginning of the semester based on their and your availability but it will be during or close to the timing of their class.

Week One
Tuesday, January 16

Review syllabus, discuss course structure
Lecture: packaging design
Briefly Introduce class projects
Introduce Box Packaging Warm-Up exercise
Assignment:
(1) Order supplies, bring 3-ring binder, sketchbook, pencil, eraser, ruler, scissors, x-acto

Thursday, January 18
Practical: working with paper
Research packaging examples
Come up with possible names for your beverage
Assignment:
(1) sketches for Wine Label / Packaging

Week Two
Tuesday, January 23
Review, refine sketches
Assignment:
(1) Translate sketches into electronic form

Thursday, January 25
Review comps
Assignment:
(1) Refine comps

Week Three
Tuesday, January 30

Review wine identity development
Work on developing label visuals

Assignment:
(1 in B&W and put it together

Thursday, February 1
Rough box mock up due
review label visuals and winery identity, develop box visuals
Assignment:
(1) Finish visuals for all three labels

Week Four
Tuesday, February 6

Preview visuals for all three labels, add type
Assignment:
(1) Finish labels and identity

Thursday, February 8
Review finished labels
Complete box design

Assignment:
(1) Prepare for pre-critique

Week Five

Introduce Identity Manual Project

Pre-critique: review printed copy of entire manual

           Review and refine sketches for advertisements, need to include headline
                        copy/slogans as well as visuals
                        Lecture: Copywriting
Assignment:
(1) Refine 3 ideas and extend the ideas into potential series
(2) Prepare ID Manual for hand in

            Hand in ID manual and logo library
                        Translate Advertisement layouts to computer
Assignment:
(1) create any illustrations or obtain images for your ads
(2) Write Design Brief for Marketing project

            Review layouts in class
            Write all support copy

            Advertisement Critique
            Work on sketches/layouts for Marketing project
Assignment:
(1) Finish sketches

Thursday, April 5
            Review sketches, refine
            Working with web templates tutorial
            Basics of editing HTML code
Assignment:
(1) find website/blog template to work with, make an account with provider (squarespace.com or other)
(2) Create a site map
(3) Work on brochure/card/poster layout

Week Thirteen
Tuesday, April 10

           Advertisements Due
           Site map due
           Review brochure/card/poster layout
            Work on website/blog/app
            Inforgraphics examples
Assignment:
(1) Add all content to brochure/card/poster
(2) Complete website/blog navigation and main landing page
(3) Infographics sketches

Thursday, April 12
            Review infographics sketches
            Review progress on brchure/card and website/blog
            Create infographics layout
Assignment:
(1) Inforgraphics roughs
(2) Make all pages for the site/blog (placeholder content)
(3) Prepare draft deliverables for your groups

Week Fourteen
Tuesday, April 17

            hand in draft deliverables to your groups
            Work on Inforgraphics and everything else
Assignment:
(1) Refine layouts
(2) Add all content to the website

Thursday, April 19
            Pre-critique
Assignment:
(1) Prepare for critique, print deliverables

Week Fifteen

            FINAL CRITIQUE

           Prepare for Marketing presentation

(1) Bring PDFs of all projects to hand in
